Brief Introduction to China National Forest Product Industry Association
China National Forest Product Industry Association (CNFPIA), founded on 11 March 1988, is a non-profit juridical association registered in the Ministry of Civil Affairs of the People's Republic of China. The competent department for business of CNFPIA is the State Forestry Administration (SFA, former Ministry of Forestry), which gives direct guidance to the business of CNFPIA. A number of branch organizations were set up under the Association, including Plywood Special Committee, Flooring Board Special Committee, Bamboo Working Special Committee and Wood Drying Special Committee.
CNFPIA is a trans-sector and trans-regional association formed voluntarily by forest product industry enterprises dealing mainly with wood processing, wood-based panel and forest chemical production. It serves for the related enterprises in management, organization, coordination, guidance as well as consultation. Complying with the Constitution, laws, regulations and national policy and abiding by the socialist morality, the objective of the Association is to protect the common interest of member enterprises, to wholeheartedly provide service for member enterprise, and to promote the development of both the economy and the technology of the whole trade.
The Association has over 500 institution members, subordinated to such various sectors as forestry, light industry, goods & materials circulating, construction & building industries distributing over all provinces across China. The main products include sawn wood, plywood, fiberboard, particleboard, flooring board, doors, windows, various further processed product based on panels, bamboo-based panel, various bamboo products, wood pulp, rosin, tannin extract, active carbon, furfural, shellac, natural flavor, Chinese tannin and other forest chemical products.
The major functions of CNFPIA are as follows:
• acting as the bridge between enterprises and governments, and making use of the strength of forestry industry to protect the lawful rights and interests of its members;
• assisting economic management departments of the government in managing the trade;
• organizing technical exchange activities, holding exhibition of new products, enhancing the cooperation & communication between domestic and overseas enterprises;
• exploring domestic & international markets, and promoting the innovation of the trade and the advancing of the science and technology of forestry industry.
CNFPIA has experienced three terms since its establishment. The third term of office the Council of the Association was elected in Beijing in October 2000 with 126 enterprises as Councilors and 53 enterprises as Standing Councilors. Mr. Li Yucai, Vice Administrator of the State Forestry Administration, and Madam Jiang Zehui, Executive Member of the State Forestry Administration, were elected the Honorary Chair of the Council. Mr. Zhang Senlin, Manager of China National Forest Product Industry Corporation was elected the Chair of the Council, Mr. Yao Changtian, Director General of the Department of Planning and Financial Management of the State Forestry Administration, and other 11 persons were elected Vice Chairs of the Council, Mr. Shen Gui was elected the full time Secretary General.
With the guidance of the State Forestry Administration and adhering to the basic line of the Party, the newly elected Council of CNFPIA will hold high the banner of prospering China's forest product industry, promote the structural readjustment, technological innovation and system innovation of the trade, endeavor to increase the overall accomplishment and international competitiveness of China's forest product industry, make unremitting efforts to serve member enterprises in accordance with the objective of the Association so as to make greater contribution to the development of forest product industry in the new century and the socialist modernization development of China. China National Forest Product Association would like to cooperate closely with both domestic and foreign fellow traders to move forward hand in hand.
